Eric M. Wall, MD, MPH is the Senior Medical Director of Qualis Health, an independent, private, nonprofit healthcare quality improvement and care management organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington. He leads a team of a dozen medical directors and a network of over 300 physician/practitioner consultants who provide clinical peer review consultation for various contracts with government and private sector benefit programs, while also developing and implementing clinical guidelines and criteria and ensuring the necessary education and training for these clinical tools.
Qualis Health’s services include support of quality and safety initiatives, care management, health information technology and business process improvement consulting, and health services research and evaluation. Qualis Health holds Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contracts in two states, contracts with five state Medicaid agencies and services many other public and private sector organizations.
Dr. Wall is a board-certified family physician with 30 years of professional clinical experience, including 13 years in management. Before he joined Qualis Health in 2008, Dr. Wall served in the dual roles of Regional Medical Director of Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and Vice President and Regional Medical Director of LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon. Prior to that, he was Vice President for Medical Affairs of QualMed Oregon Health Plan (now HealthNet of Oregon) after spending 10 years as the Associate Professor and Director of Research in Family Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University.
After earning his medical degree at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, Dr. Wall completed his family medicine residency at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. He holds a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Washington.
Dr. Wall served as the Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Science from 2005 to 2007. He served on the American Medical Association’s Performance Measures and Evaluation Subcommittee and is completing his appointment to the Stakeholder Group for the Effective Health Care Program of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Dr. Wall has participated on numerous guideline development panels, most recently the American Academy of Otolaryngology Tonsillectomy Guideline Panel. He continues in active clinical practice at the University of Washington’s Belltown Clinic in Seattle.
